Chris offers clients the benefits of his education and years of practical
knowledge, as he has worked and competed in sport for most of his life. He has competed
at a high level in a variety of sports: Hockey (College), Golf (5
handicap), Baseball (HS) and cycling (Cat. 1). Currently, Chris
competes Nationally for the powerhouse road cycling team,
Fiordifrutta, based
out of New England. He
believes that the work ethic and perseverance developed in sport
carries over to all aspects of life.
Chris
has worked in the field of Strength and Conditioning/Exercise
Physiology
for almost 10 years and has received many accolades along the way.
Certifications in strength and conditioning (NSCA/CSCS), personal training
(NASM,ACSM,AFAA), coaching (USA cycling-expert level), and emergency
care (CPR, First Aid).
Academically,
Chris has studied athletic training, sport biomechanics, exercise
physiology, human performance, nutrition and has received degrees from Western
Connecticut State University (B.A.'96), University of Connecticut (B.S.'00),
and Southern Connecticut State University (M.S.'04). Most of his
research has involved endurance athletes and carbohydrate
metabolism.
The foundation of
his program design rests on the concept of periodization,
which is the varying or cycling of training specificity, intensity,
and volume in order to achieve peak levels of conditioning. Planned variations
of program design help athletes avoid staleness and overtraining
while encouraging continuous performance improvements. His goal
is to enhance performance by applying sport science to the
physiological development of his clients. Training prescription,
equipment fitting, exercise testing, and competition preparation
encompass the program design.
In addition to athletes, Chris has also worked one-on-one with a variety of
individuals ranging from amputees and post-surgical rehabilitation
to business executives and high profile celebrities. Chris is
available to work with clients of all age ranges and fitness levels,
privately or in groups.
