Have you hit a plateau in your athletic performance?
Do you know exactly what training you need to improve?
Have you achieved peak performance at the right time?

Exercise testing and evaluation by CTR Sport Development can answer these questions.  Regular testing is an essential element in an athletes training program, and is the only way to quantitatively evaluate an athlete’s fitness level as to achieve peak performance at the proper time.  Testing provides a multi-dimensional profile of conditioning, energy system adaptation, and vital feedback for future training prescription.  Essentially, it is the only true way to evaluate adaptations to training and racing stress.

Ergometer and Lactate Test

Testing will take place on a Velodyne trainer, using the athletes own bike. Individual tests will be performed to determine strength of energy systems (ATP/PC, Anaerobic, Aerobic), speed of recovery, and fatigue level. This test will verify the individual's strengths and weaknesses, which will then be used in establishing the athletes training goals.  Lactate levels will be analyzed during testing.

Why Lactate?
Lactate is the unique metabolic variable that indicates the capability of the muscles for an athletic performance. We emphasize "unique" in the preceding sentence because no other metabolic parameter provides the same information.  Lactate is produced by the anaerobic system and used by the aerobic system it is the only marker available for measuring each system. The amount of energy an athlete can produce per unit of time depends on the development of both systems, which is why they have to be balanced.

What instrument is used?
Accusport portable lactate analyzer. www.lactate.com
How?
Several blood samples will be drawn from the finger, using a ‘pin prick’, and analyzed during testing.
Is it safe?
Yes, Samples will be taken in a sterile environment and is the same procedure diabetics go through everyday.

Upon completion of the test will be a printout and analysis of the results to inform the athlete of future training goals.

Cost: $100 per session*

Body Composition Test

In recent years, the measurement of percent of body fat has become widely used and recommended as one of the indicators of athletic performance. By monitoring percent of body fat and weight regularly, there are many things a person can learn about their fitness and any changes in fitness as time progresses, that cannot be learned by weighing with a scale alone. Perhaps the single most important thing the monitoring of percent of body fat will do is determine changes in muscle tissue over time. By knowing percent of body fat, the percent of muscle, bone, organs, etc. can also be determined.  Skinfold Caliper measurements are the most accurate method for people below 15 percent body fat (athletes); therefore, is our method of choice.

A Skinfold caliper is an instrument that lightly pinches the athletes skin to separate the fat from the muscle and connective tissue. Seven different sites will be tested to ensure the most accurate results. The results will then be totaled and calculated to determine the athlete's percent of body fat.

Muscular Balance and Flexibility Test

Muscular strength is the ability of a muscle or muscle group to generate maximal force, whereas, muscular balance describes the proper synergy between the agonist and antagonist groups exerting force on a joint or structure.  Often athletes acquire muscle imbalances due to repetitive actions in their sport and improper development between muscles.  These imbalances often lead to injury and/or compensations resulting in further anatomical complications.

Flexibility refers to the range of motion of a given joint. Flexibility is thought to be limited to muscles and tendons surrounding a joint. Ligaments connect bone to bone. These ligaments and their amount of freedom are also influenced by flexibility. Flexibility decreases the risk of joint and muscle injury. Flexibility tests are used to find out how flexible you are presently, and, with regular testing, demonstrate your progress in becoming more flexible. Flexibility is one the major parts of your fitness program, and often enhances physical sports performance.

A CTR Sport Development staff member will assess and recommend flexibility and strength exercises as determined by testing.

Bike Fit and Time Trial positioning

Bicycle fitting is a subject most people find quite mysterious. Fitting systems with charts and graphs, computer software, measuring devices and "rules of thumb" make for a lot of confusion. But we believe it’s really quite simple. Bicycle fit involves compromises. Compromises between comfort and performance, quick acceleration and handling stability, top speed and efficiency.
Your body’s position on the bike affects how you ride. It affects how much power you can efficiently deliver to the pedals. It affects how comfortable you are on the bike. A position that is more comfortable may not allow you to put as much energy into moving the bike forward as a less comfortable position might. We believe that a proper bike fit is the easiest and most efficient way to increase your performance.

Bike Fit Analysis Details

Bike fits are based upon the rider on his/her own bike. Fits are based on biomechanical and kinesthetic sense from years of experience. Fit details include:
- Saddle height
- Saddle position fore/aft/tilt
- Shoe/pedal alignment
- Knee/pedal relationship
- Bar width/rotation
- Aero bar height/extension
- Proper adjustments, as possible, given current state of bike
- Parts recommendation to correct position

Cost: $100 per session*

Time Trial Positioning

- Determine the most powerful and aerodynamic position via testing on a Velodyne trainer using the athletes own bike.

Cost: $100 per session*
